Crimson “Kathy” Carey, CPIW, CISR
Born in Louisiana, and an Air Force “brat” we move lot & settled in Charleston, SC in 1984.
I graduated in 1987 from Stratford High School, Goose Creek, SC. Then attended Trident Technical College and earned a Certificate in Business Software Applications.
My career in insurance started in 1989 when my (twin) sister asked me if I wanted a job at her place of employment, Johnson & Johnson Inc. Mgrs., in downtown Charleston. Since after just a couple of months of employment Hurricane Hugo hit. I learned a lot fast. I started there as a Commercial policy typist and worked my way up to a Commercial Underwriter. In addition to that I was also the LAN Administrator over 80 employees.
After 7 years there, I decided to try out the Independent Agency side of insurance. I went to work at Keenan Insurance of Charleston, as Commercial Lines Marketing Specialist/CSR & System Administrator.
In 1998, I was offered a new job at another Independent Insurance agency, Pinckney Carter Co. in North Charleston, SC. As an Account Manager, I managed & provided exceptional customer service to a Commercial Lines book of business including an additional book of Private clients.
While I thoroughly enjoyed my employment at Pinckney Carter Co., my sister and I was approached with an opportunity of a lifetime; to open our own Independent Insurance Agency. It was perfect timing as my sister, Tesha Carey’s boss had just retired. After hard work and determination, we opened Carey Insurance LLC, July 1st, 2018.
Over the years, I have accomplished numerous achievements, I received my Property & Casualty, including Inland Marine & Surety license in 1995, my Brokers licenses in 1998.
In 1989 I joined The Charleston Association of insurance Professionals, a chapter of National Association of Insurance Women, held several offices on the local and state level and even earned Insurance Women of the Year in 1997. I have also earned insurance designations of CPIW (Certified Professional Insurance Women), CISR (Certified Insurance Service Representative), by completing series of insurance courses and passing the exams. I received the SC Education Achievement Award in 1998.
While Insurance takes up a lot of time, I have raised my son that is my pride & joy! I am an active member of the American Pool Association (APA) since year 2000.
Tesha Carey
I was born in Louisiana and my father was military, Air Force branch. We moved a lot growing up. We settled in Charleston, South Carolina in 1984. I graduated from Stratford High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina in 1987.
I began my career in insurance in 1986 through the co-op program in high school my senior year. My first job was with Phil Bradley, Allstate. Mr. Bradley believed in me and sent me to get my property and casualty insurance license and later sent me to get my Life and Health license.
In January 1988 I had the opportunity to work at Johnson & Johnson Inc. Mgrs. For approximately 5 years I was an Auto Underwriter. We were located on East Bay Street downtown Charleston in the Peoples Building on the 7th floor. I was here when Hurricane Hugo hit. What an experience that was!
July 1994, I heard State Farm, Larry Davis’ office was looking to hire an insurance agent. I went to interview and was hired on the spot. I worked there for 25 years. What a great place to work . Mr. Davis retired December 2017.
I was at a loss of what to do, so I decided it was time to fulfil my dream of having my own agency. In July 2018 I partnered with my twin sister, Kathy Carey and opened Carey Insurance LLC.
I am an active member of the American Pool Association (APA) since 2000. I am extremely close to my nieces and nephews. I do have two fur babies, Molly & Rocky. I love spending time playing pool, and time with my family (including my fur babies).
